Why we should have real or rubber houseplants!
Did you know houseplants can reduce dust and particulate matter from rooms and can help keep indoor air clean?!
People with certain health issues can benefit from growing indoor plants.
According to NASA Clean Air Study, “some houseplants clear pollutants from the air, and a rubber plant is one of them.”
Greenery and plants throughout our homes can be natural stress relievers, help with anxiety and overall improve the quality of your home.
Particulate matter or particle pollution refers to a combination of solid particles and liquid droplets found in the air. Some examples are dirt, dust, smoke, and soot.
Long exposure to these particles can cause breathing and lung issues down the road.
Plants that reduce dust & Particulate Matter:
fiddle leaf, fig, snake plant, water lilies, anthuriums, Hoyas, philodendrons, mums, purple smoke tree, purple fountain grass & croton (to name just a handful)
Rubber plants are can be quite large and waxy making this an easy & effective way to trap the dust and particles in the air. To make these rubber plants even more effective you can spritz the plant with a water bottle once a day to increase the likelihood of things from the air sticking.
According to an article by National Wildlife Federation, (“Spider Plants and Clean Air”), spider plants can clean more than 95% of toxic agents from the air. It is most effective in removing carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, Xylene, and toluene. Spider plants can also absorb nitrogen dioxide effectively.
*Be sure you’re aware of plants that can be toxic to your household pets ! Some indoor plants can be poisonous for our animals.
